Our Company
Boxwood Design LLC is a woman-owned company in business for over 10 years, providing landscape design and gardening services, including custom pruning, as well as consultations and hands-on assistance for new gardeners or new homeowners who want to learn about plant care, identify existing plants, and set priorities for their gardens.
Owner Nancy Everett has a deep interest in sustainable design, and selecting the right plants for the right spot to lower maintenance and ensure the health of the garden. Nancy respects your budget and is careful to keep project costs reasonable (with a large garden herself, Nancy can often add her own extra plants).
Other specialties include:
- Deer management - what works and what doesn't
- Renovating and restoring existing landscaping - saves you money by incorporating existing plants and elements
- Native plants - they can be incorporated into any design and help wildlife and the environment
- Four-season interest - there is always something to look at in the garden, no matter what time of year!
- Master planning - allows you to work on one area at a time, knowing that everything will work together when finished
- Seasonal pots - this is such fun! We can design ourselves or work with you so that you will learn the necessary tricks and skills
- Landscaping ready for the real estate market - don't underestimate the importance of good landscaping when selling your home. I have worked with Realtors to economically spruce up existing landscaping to have you market-ready.
Projects range from complete master plans to existing plant identification and care. Whether your budget is $500 or $50,000, we can improve your garden and its function. Contact us for any of your garden needs or projects.

Owner
For as long as she can remember, Nancy Everett has always loved plants. A 4th-generation Washingtonian, she remembers visiting her grandfather's florist shop on Capitol Hill and always leaving with a fresh flower, and long afternoons weeding tomato beds and picking fresh strawberries. At 9, she was in charge of her grandmother's prized rock garden. Nancy's work is a distillation of over 50 years in gardens all over the greater DC area, as she draws from a wealth of experience.
Nancy's journey back to her first love took a few unexpected twists and turns. She obtained a fine arts degree with high honors from Bucknell University and then headed for Georgetown Law School, where she also graduated with honors. She practiced law for 25 years, most with a prominent national real estate developer where she was responsible for environmental matters, and when the company was sold she returned to school and her first love, gardening and landscape design.
Except for 4 years at college, she has spent her entire life in the DC area, and those roots are deep. She has lived in every quandrant of the city, as well as close-in Virginia and D.C. She lives in a restored civil-war-era farmhouse and uses its 1.3 acres as a laboratory to see how various trees, shrubs, and perennials respond to different conditions. This wealth of experience provides the impetus for her work, be it design work, garden rejuvenation, helping new owners manage their garden, custom pruning, or other services. Because of her background, each project is viewed through the lens of sound environmental management and sustainability.
